The menu is not quite cosy comfort food, although there is a bit of that, but it is not fine dining either, and a lot of effort goes into it. We make just about everything ourselves and are true believers in freshness.
Brightening our bistro’s mix is a lively outdoor sundowner culture, and at night the candles come out for glowing pavement suppers.
As long as memory stretches a café has always been found on this corner of Buckingham Avenue’s turning circle (the dot in cnr.). We now call it home, where for 17 years we have always been the neighbourhood’s owner-run local spot.
We’ve been catering to those closest to us for years and have learned that some secrets of enduring success are feeling taken care of, soft light, good coffee, taking your time, smooth service and volumes low enough to hear each other. Having said that we don’t want it to be too calm, so we try and strike a balance with a lively vibe.
Gathering people around casual good food is more than just feeding people and creating an easy, warm atmosphere. It is paying attention to what and how you would like to eat. Our calling is to offer healthy and delicious food, with an emphasis on freshness, making most of it ourselves, enhanced with some great Cape wines.
Our team are great. We know that because most of them have been here for years. Part of the cnr. café’s ethic of trading with honesty resides in an appreciation of our carefully trained staff, whose loyalty to this little enterprise and warm service keep the whole show on the road.
